Hostel registration, campus tour, orientation sessions, meeting roommates and wingmates. Everything is new and exciting (and a little scary). Embrace it โ everyone around you feels the same way.
First lectures, lab introductions, getting used to the timetable. Start understanding the academic rhythm. Join the Club Fair! This is when you discover what excites you beyond the classroom.
You'll start recognizing faces, find your canteen favorites, and settle into a routine. First assignments might start rolling in. The initial overwhelm fades and comfort sets in.
By now, campus feels familiar. You know the shortcuts, your friend circle is forming, and you're already planning for CIA 1. Welcome to the family โ you belong here!
Everything freshers commonly ask โ answered by those who've been there.
Absolutely not. Amrita has a strict anti-ragging policy. Seniors are generally very welcoming and helpful. The anti-ragging committee is active and responsive. If you ever face any issues (which is extremely rare), report immediately โ the administration takes it very seriously.
Yes, and you absolutely should! A laptop is essential for assignments, coding, and research. Most CSE students prefer Windows or Linux; Mac works too. Make sure it has decent specs โ 8GB RAM minimum, SSD preferred.
It's decent and nutritious. Not restaurant-quality, but you'll get used to it. The rotating weekly menu keeps things varied. Sundays are usually special (biryani!). Campus canteens are great for when you need a change of taste.
It works for browsing and basic streaming. For heavy downloads or gaming, Ethernet in your room is better. Speeds improve during off-peak hours (late night). Pro tip: connect early in the semester before everyone's on the network.
You'll need an outpass approved by your hostel warden. It's allowed, but freshers are encouraged to stay and bond with batchmates in the first few weeks. The friendships you build early on last the longest.
Essentials: Bedsheets, pillow, bucket, hangers, extension board, mosquito repellent, medicines, umbrella, water bottle, snacks for late nights. The campus shop has basics too, but it's better to come prepared for the first week.
There's no uniform for B.Tech, but dress appropriately for class. Lab sessions may require closed shoes. You'll need formal wear for presentations, vivas, and some events. Smart casuals are your safest bet for daily classes.
Officially, no. Some faculty are strict about it. Keep it on silent. Using it for notes (with permission) might be okay in some classes. Best practice: use a notebook for class and your phone during breaks.
Revise class notes weekly. Solve previous year papers. Attend review sessions. Start at least 5 days before the exam โ not the night before. Consistent effort throughout the semester makes CIA prep much easier.
Not traditional jobs, but you can do freelance work, tutoring, or contribute to research projects under faculty. Internships start from 2nd year. Some students do freelance web dev or content writing on the side.
Amrita has good placement records. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Amazon, and more visit campus. Start preparing from 2nd year for the best results. DSA, aptitude, and soft skills are key. The placement cell is supportive.
It's developing rapidly. There are restaurants, malls in Vijayawada (30 min), and the Krishna River nearby. Campus life keeps you busy enough though! Between classes, clubs, sports, and friends โ boredom is rare.
Branch change is possible after the first semester based on CGPA. You need a very high CGPA (usually 9+) and seats must be available in the target branch. It's competitive, so focus on scoring well if this is your goal.
You can retake the exam in a supplementary exam. It's not the end of the world โ many students go through this. Focus on learning from the experience and improving. Talk to your faculty for guidance.
Your orientation mentors (Amma Mentors) are assigned to help you. Branch WhatsApp groups and club interactions are the best way to connect with seniors. Don't hesitate to approach them โ they were in your shoes not long ago!
